Nina Colon
Nina Colon | 1st Year Intern

Nina joined the ACHSM Health Management Internship Program in 2026 and is completing her first placement at Northern Health Bundoora Centre.

 

She graduated in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science from Monash University with majors in mathematics and microbiology and honours in microbiology. She then worked as a research assistant studying gastrointestinal infection and immunology where she undertook independent research projects and managed the daily operations of the laboratory.

 

Drawn to the managerial aspects of her role, she completed a Diploma of Project Management from Swinburne University in 2024.

 

Through the program, Nina looks forward to experiencing a diverse range of roles and environments within the health management field, explore the full potential of her leadership skills, and gain specialised knowledge that will allow her to meaningfully contribute to healthcare systems and continue to make a difference to the heath of all Australians. 

Anthony Nguyen
Anthony Nguyen | 1st Year Intern

Anthony commenced the Health Management Internship Program in 2026, and is undertaking his first placement within the Strategy and Planning team at Barwon Health.

 

He is concurrently pursuing a Master of Health Services Management at Griffith University.

 

Anthony obtained his Dentistry degree with Griffith University, and has gained experience working as a Dentist in both public and private clinics across Victoria and Queensland, both in metropolitan and rural settings.

 

Through the Health Management Internship program, Anthony aims to broaden his skillset beyond the clinical space, gaining valuable leadership and management experience. He aspires to make meaningful impacts on health service delivery for Victorians and Australia wide, thereby optimising overall health outcomes for our people. 

Mohan Prem
Mohan Prem | 1st Year Intern

Mohan is a passionate public health doctor looking to make an impact through community service and health service management.

 

Mohan completed his undergraduate medical studies in Mysore, India after which he worked as a medical practitioner across the country and seeking to make an impact through preventative practice pursued his Master of Public Health at the University of Melbourne to expand on his clinical knowledge.

 

Mohan is excited to be part of the Health Management Internship Program to gain experience in healthcare delivery across Victoria. His first placement is at Barwon Health.

 

In his free time Mohan enjoys making short films and aspires to promote health through film.

2nd year Management Interns
Zaid Ahmed
Zaid Ahmed | 2nd Year Intern

Zaid joined the Health Management Internship Program in February 2025 and is currently undertaking his third placement with the Strategy and Planning Team at Western Health, where he is supporting strategic planning activities and contributing to the finalisation of the Clinical Services Plan for the West Metro Local Health Service Network (WMLHSN).

 

He commenced the program with a placement in the Strategy and Planning Team at Barwon Health in Geelong, where he worked across service development and clinical service planning initiatives. His work included leading the redesign of the Allied Health equipment hire service, developing a new model of care and process maps to improve efficiency, safety, and financial sustainability, and supporting the refresh of Barwon Health’s Strategic Clinical Services Plan through stakeholder consultation, analysis, and executive briefing development. 

 

Zaid then completed a placement at the Victorian Department of Health within the Asset Planning Team, part of the System Planning Division. In this role, he contributed to state-wide infrastructure and asset assessment programs, including clinical functionality assessments and health department-owned building programs. This placement provided exposure to system-level investment planning, capital prioritisation, asset governance, and long-term health infrastructure strategy, strengthening his understanding of whole-of-system service planning and sustainability. 

 

Zaid holds a Bachelor of Public Health with electives in Business Management from La Trobe University and is currently completing a Master of Health Service Management. His professional foundation in HR and workforce management provides a strong operational and organisational lens that complements his growing expertise in strategy, service planning, and system design. 

 

Through the Health Management Internship Program, Zaid is building a comprehensive understanding of Victoria’s health system across service improvement and delivery, ​ Infrastructure planning, and network-level strategy. He is deeply committed to developing leadership capability, driving service innovation, and contributing to sustainable, high-impact health system transformation that delivers meaningful outcomes for communities.

Coleen Balanga
Coleen Balanga | 2nd Year Intern

Coleen is a second-year Health Service Management Intern, studying a Master of Health Administration with Monash University concurrently. She is excited to put theoretical skills from her Bachelor of Nursing (Latrobe University) and Master of Public Health (Monash University) into her initial placement with Safer Care Victoria.

 

Within the six years of her professional career, she has been fortunate to have had exposure in clinical nursing, project management, and nurse consultancy roles. It has given her a holistic overview to acute tertiary care. Thereby, facilitating a systems approach to thinking and problem solving.

 

But due to her interest in health governance and lifelong learning, she aspires to expand her knowledge in policymaking and gain practical skills from current leaders in healthcare. Coleen hopes to continue the legacy of current leaders – making sure our healthcare system is sustainable, effective and efficient so that individuals can remain safe and healthy.

 

Henceforth, this program is invaluable to Coleen. It enables her to take a step closer to making a difference in the wider community.

Rhylee Ford
Rhylee Ford | 2nd Year Intern

Rhylee is a second-year Health Management Intern who joined the program in 2025. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Genetics and spent her time prior to the program working in both regional and metropolitan hospitals as a Medical Laboratory Technician within Anatomical Pathology.  

Rhylee’s first placement was with the Department of Health in Asset Planning. The placement provided a unique lens of the complexity involved in overseeing the healthcare system at the state level. Through project oversight and contract administration, she gained an understanding of how strategic governance and resource allocation function on a larger scale.  

Her second placement was at Northern Health in Subacute and Hospital Without Walls. This placement shifted her focus toward organisational risk management and governance, with the implementation of the new Aged Care legislation. The placement highlighted the complex juggle health services face when preparing for major legislative change whilst managing daily operations of the health service.   

Rhylee has commenced her third placement at Bayside Health Alfred Care Group in Strategy and Planning. She is eager to continue learning from experienced leaders in the healthcare sector, embracing new challenges and contributing to meaningful healthcare outcomes for the community. 

Asha Rajai
Asha Rajai | 2nd Year Intern

Asha is a seasoned Senior Medical Scientist and Project Officer based in Melbourne, Australia. With over 14 years of experience in public and private health services, she brings a unique blend of technical proficiency and strategic project management capabilities.

 

Asha’s technical expertise includes advanced health IT systems like EPIC and LIS, middleware solutions, and laboratory instrumentation. She has extensive experience in quality management systems, compliance with ISO 15189 standards, and implementing accreditation guidelines. Her tenure at some of Victoria’s reputed organisations such as Austin Health, The Royal Melbourne Hospital and Epworth Hospital has honed her haematology, blood banking, and cellular therapy skills.

 

In addition to her experience and skills, Asha is a Certified Prince2 Practitioner who excels at stakeholder engagement, problem-solving skills, risk management and strategic project delivery.

 

She also holds a Master’s Degree in Laboratory Medicine from RMIT University and a Graduate Certificate in Health Management from Deakin University.

 

Asha is truly inspired to join the ACHSM program and is passionate about continuous learning and acquiring invaluable hands-on experience in health service management. She aims to develop a thorough understanding of the intricacies of the healthcare system, with a particular focus on management and leadership dynamics.

 

The journey is not just an academic pursuit; it aligns perfectly with her overarching ambition of making a significant and positive impact on healthcare systems and services across Victoria and, ultimately, throughout Australia. Asha is extremely excited to be a part of this ACHSM transformative journey, which has curated and grown a large number of talented leaders in health service.
