About the program

The Health Management Program (Victoria) offers committed, high potential interns the opportunity to develop the skills, capabilities and knowledge required to begin a career in managing the challenges and complexities of health service delivery across Victoria. Throughout the two years of the program, Management Interns are given the opportunity to be exposed to a variety of different workplace and educational opportunities.

The Victorian Department of Health and Human Services is seeking to support Aboriginal people's participation in the HMIP and encourages Aboriginal people to apply for the Department sponsored intern position.

Program eligibility

To be eligible for this program, applicants must:

  1. provide proof of their Australian Citizenship or permanent Australian residency status
  2. hold a relevant undergraduate qualification and/or postgraduate qualification (at least two years' work experience is desirable)
  3. agree to undergo all required pre-employment health screening and checks, which includes but may not be limited to Working with Children Check, Aged Care Check, National Criminal Record Check

How to apply

Stage 1: Information evening – to be held via Zoom

Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to attend the HMIP information evening on Thursday 30 Jul 2020 and prior registration is required. Once you have registered, you will receive a link to this Zoom session.

Stage 2: Online application process

Important: Please read all documents prior to completing your application.

Complete and submit the application form by midnight Sunday 23 Aug 2020.

Stage 3: Group interview

All shortlisted applicants will be advised via email and/or telephone. The group interview will be a skills assessment and is required for those who are successful in their Stage 1 application. The assessment is made up of a two to three-hour session comprising two different tasks to assess your ability to critically think, problem solve, work in teams, prioritise information, analyse data and present information.

The assessment may be held via Zoom in August. Panel members will comprise representatives from ACHSM and representatives from various professional healthcare backgrounds.

Stage 4: Individual interviews

The final stage of the selection process is an interview with a panel of individuals and will be 30 minutes in duration. The interviews may or may not be on the same day as the group interview and will be held via Zoom.

Interview schedules may change due to COVID-19 restrictions. Final details of the interviews will be sent to applicants who are successful in reaching each stage of the application process.

Stage 5: Offers and Commencement

Candidates will be emailed preliminary offers and asked to verbally accept. A formal contract will then be emailed for signing and return to ACHSM. If you accept the placement a one-off Program fee of $1100 + GST is applicable.

An orientation day will be held late November 2020 and the Program will commence with orientation on Monday 11 Jan 2021.

ACHSM reserves the right not to appoint to the HMIP.
