Introduction 

The principal aim of the Management Residency Program is to attract, qualify and train recent and post-graduates from a diverse range of education and work experience, and/or individuals already working in the health system, who have a passion in pursuing a career in health service management. The objectives of the Program include:

  • To equip future health management leaders for success
  • To provide qualified, innovative and motivated health managers to the health sector at large via training, education and professional development, and
  • To provide a means of changing careers for staff already working in the health system with a desire in the health management field.

The Program provides Residents the opportunity to excel in a variety of workplace settings, predominately in health services and the Department of Health, and to undertake the Master in Health Administration (MHA) degree offered by La Trobe University.

Programs 

The programs on offer by the ACHSM Victorian Branch for 2012 include:

1.   Metropolitan (Metro) Management  Residency Program – (2 year program for recent graduates)

  • Includes four six-month placements predominantly in health services around metropolitan Melbourne and the Department of Health
  • Includes fully-funded study program leading to a Master of Health Administration degree at La Trobe University
  • Remuneration package is approximately $60,000 per annum and includes salary, university fees, Professional Development allowance and superannuation

2.   Rural Management Residency Program – (2 year program for recent graduates)

  • Includes four six-month placements in rural and regional health services and the rural branch of the Department of Health
  • Includes fully-funded study program leading to a Master of Health Administration degree at La Trobe University
  • Remuneration package is approximately $60,000 per annum and includes salary, university fees, Professional Development allowance and superannuation

3.   Rural Post-Graduate Management Residency Program- (1 year program designed for individuals with prior work experince in the health sector)

  • Designed to prepare young professionals with prior work experience for senior management positions in rural and regional health services
  • Includes two six-month placements with close mentoring by senior executives in rural and regional health services
  • Remuneration package is approximately $80,000 per annum and includes salary, Professional Development and superannuation

Rural programs are partly funded by the Department of Health.  All programs are supported by the Victorian Public Healthcare System
