EFM Innovation and Excellence Award

Innovation is about the implementation of new and improved practices within a sector of an industry or across the industry value chain. Innovation is not solely about invention. It is about realising the creativity of people by embracing and capitalising on doing things in a different way to bring about beneficial and sustainable change. This new and important award recognises innovation and excellence by individuals and teams working in health and aged care in South Australia that have made an outstanding contribution to improving the health management operations of an organisation or system within an organisation. The award comprises $1000.00 cash. The aims of the Award are to:
• encourage people to write up their own work
• foster awareness of innovative ideas and concepts that lead to excellence in health management service delivery
• promote discussion and learning among health service management practitioners.

This year's winner - the team from the Central and Northern Adelaide local health networks led by Gillian Bartley for the implementation of integrated falls assessment clinics servicing older people in the that resulted in less ambulance calls, emergency department presentations and admissions. The Council felt that this award crossed over all of the health care sectors.

SA Branch Merit Award for Innovation and Excellence.

We also awarded an extra award as we found it hard to pick one winner and that was the ACHSM SA Branch Merit Award for Innovation and Excellence. It was awarded to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital physiotherapy project that improved the health and fitness and reduced admission for cystic fibrosis patients through targetted intensive ambulatory physiotherapy.
